Clik here to view.ARGO Medical Technologies Ltd., a small company founded in Israel in 2001, announced the opening of their U.S. headquarters at the annual conference of the Advanced Medical Technology Association, referred to as AdvaMed. As reported by Telegram.com, the company that created equipment that helps paralysis patients walk is establishing their U.S. headquarters in Marlboro, Massachusetts as the business prepares for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review of its ReWalk machine.
The ReWalk is an exoskeleton for individuals with lower limb disabilities that patients wear and use to walk, stand up, or descend stairs. The computer-controlled exoskeleton is a device that the user straps on his or her legs and the person also wears a backpack containing a battery. By punching buttons on a wrist-worn device, the user can tell the components to stand, move forward, or take stairs.
A female Army veteran disabled due to treatments for an autoimmune disorder demonstrated the ReWalk to a crowd of onlookers at AdvaMed, saying she generally uses it three times a week at a Bronx, NY hospital. The army veteran states confidently that this is “for all the doctors out there who told me I would never walk again.”
ARGO’s Marlboro-based office will initially employ a small staff of five to six, but may increase to 40 if the international company wins approval for ReWalk from the FDA and launches U.S. sales for the innovative medical device. The company began sales of ReWalk in Europe in September 2012.
The ReWalk system sells for approximately 50,000 euros, or $64,000 dollars, in Europe, but it is presently not known how much the device will sell for in the U.S. or how potential customers can pay for it.
